VICEROY Internships

VICEROY CySER students have very strong representation at the various VICEROY internships. The VICEROY internships in 2022 were not yet called MAVEN or ENVOY.

Cybersecurity Competitions

  • A team of students from the WSU student club Cyber Security Group placed second in the Spokane CyberCup in February 2024.
  • A team of students from the Cyber Security Group placed 68 nationally overall out of more than 500 universities in the National Cyber League competition in November 2023. | Rankings
  • Two teams of WSU students, each with four CySER members and one non-CySER member, competed in VICEROY’s Dr. BOOM competition in September 2023. One team placed second and the other placed sixth out of twenty teams.
  • A team of students from the Cyber Security Group placed 75 nationally overall out of more than 500 universities in the National Cyber League competition in March 2023. | Rankings
  • CySER students Guinevere Fish, Alex Hagood, William Heinecke, and Zachary Werle, along with WSU student Erick Pairault, place first at the Spokane CyberCup. | News link

Further Highlights

  • WSU students Fredy Fernandez and Douglas Takada were voted Distinguished MAVEN Graduates by their peers at MAVEN in 2024.
  • WSU student Bryan Frederickson served as MAVEN Mentor alongside being a MAVEN intern himself in 2024.
  • WSU student Caitlyn Boyd was a member of the MAVEN project team that won the Best Paper Award in 2024.
  • CySER student Alec Barran was selected to participate in the prestigious X-Force Internship in summer 2024.
  • CySER student Alec Barran was selected as the 2024 Outstanding Senior in Computer Science at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at WSU.
  • Five CySER students – Alexander (Alec) Barran, Adam Caudle, Alexander Hagood, Guivenere Fish, Mikayden Weise, and Zach Werle – participated in the VICEROY Symposium 2024 and presented posters on their research work in CySER mentored by graduate students and CySER faculty. They also participated in a Student Engagement panel at the symposium.

  • WSU student club Cyber Security Group hosted a seminar in Spring 2024 from the organizer of the Spokane CyberCup, Max Dulin. He talked about his activities with Radio Frequency security as it relates to sports scoreboards as well as his work as a security engineer.
  • CySER students Zach Werle and Alexander Hagood serve as President and Vice-President, respectively, of the WSU student club Cyber Security Group since 2022.
